Mike Lynch, Julie Fairley, and Greg Pierson at the 60th Anniversary Homecoming Rally
Gregory N. Pierson, Co-Founder, and Chair of Distinguished Kadets Committee
My background: I am a career educator. I have 40 years of experience as a public school teacher and administrator. I have served as the principal of Air Academy High School from 1991-1998 and as the interim principal at AAHS during the 2009-2010 school year. I have also been the principal of the University of Northern Colorado Laboratory School, the director of University Schools in Greeley and the principal of Englewood High School. In recent years, I have been an educational consultant for several school districts and the school construction specialist for Roche Constructors, Inc. of Greeley. I am a founding member of Salida del Sol Academy, a K-8 dual language school in Greeley, and currently, serve as a board member for the school. My family has lived in Colorado 42 years.
Why I started Kadet Legacy: Air Academy High has a rich heritage. I believe those of us who have had the privilege of working, learning and experiencing the Kadet culture at AAHS have an obligation to preserve and maintain the culture created by John Asbury some 60 years ago. This is a very unique school and its graduates have distinguished themselves across the globe. We need to honor those graduates and the dedicated educators who mentored them along the way.
Quirky things about me: I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I have a passion for baseball. I coached high school baseball for 22 years. I am an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan. In recent years, I have published a couple of historical articles. I enjoyed the research much more than the writing. Even though I am retired, I continue to be involved in school settings. I am a founding member of a dual language charter school, I serve on a school board, I am on the homecoming and events committee for University High in Greeley, and I am now part of the Kadet Legacy Foundation. Education and school are in my blood.
Ask me how much I love: My children and grandchildren. My wife, Judy, and I have been married for 51 years. We have been blessed with two wonderful daughters, two awesome sons-in-law, and five beautiful and talented grandchildren. Our daughter, Jennifer, is an audiologist in Academy District 20. Her children are K-12 graduates of D-20. Our daughter, Laura, is an early childhood specialist in the Fort Collins schools.
